THE SONS OF ELI VERSUS THE SONS OF JACOB

The sons of Eli

In the book of Samuel in the bible we read about the sins the sons of Eli committed against God and against their father.

They had an immoral life and had no respect for God or their father.

Then in the book of Genesis we read about the sons of Jacob who also sinned against God by trying to thwart God’s destiny for Joseph and against their brother Joseph and their father.

These men from both families had sinned big time and one would say that they deserved a severe judgment.

God however does not rejoice when He needs to punish someone who has sinned so terribly.

So He spoke to Eli to correct his sons behavior but they did not listen to him and he just let them continue to sin.

Then God gave a message to the little boy Samuel to announce to Eli what the consequences of  the hardening of their hearts and Eli’s lack of concern about God’s house would be.

God would in one day remove them from their position, and we can all read the sad story in the bible.

The sons of Jacob

The sons of Jacob however got a different judgment from God, because their father was a God fearing man who served God with respect and corrected his sons when they did wrong.

But because he did not know what they had done to Joseph he could not correct their ways.

But his grief about Joseph and about the destiny God had for Joseph touched the hearts of his sinful sons and they repented from their evil ways and were kind to their little brother the brother of Joseph.

And they honored and loved their father and were sorry to have caused him so much grief.

So God in His mercy showed them mercy by letting Joseph forgive them.

Joseph knew that he had followed the road that God had sent him on to get him to his purposed destiny. His destiny was already determined by God that he would have the victory after suffering if he held on to Gods promises.

And he did so he got the victory and the fulfillment of the dream.

But the fate of the brothers was determined by their repentance from sin.

If they had continued to be evil and have no regret of what they had done to Joseph they would have been judged the same way as the sons of Eli.

So today as we all walk on the road of life to have eternal life with God when we surrender our lives to Him, let us take notice of our steps and repent from every wrong step we have made.

We hurt God with every sin that we commit just like the sons of Eli and the sons of Jacob.

God is merciful to those who repent but to those who don’t God will have to be a righteous God and judge them according to their sins. He will do this with tears in His eyes.

Blessings and love in Christ,
