The bible tells us that speaking in tongues is a gift of the Holy Spirit to those who are followers of Christ. For those of you who are not familiar with this phenomenon, it may sound like a mystical thing, but believe me it’s not.

What is speaking in tongues, what does it sound like and how do you do it?

The first people to speak in this heavenly language where the believers in the upper room on the day of Pentecost. The Holy Ghost came upon them and invaded their lives with the passionate fire of God’s love.

“When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.
Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard them speaking in his own language.” (Acts 2:1-6)

It seemed though that the pilgrims outside who had come from all around the world to worship in Jerusalem could hear the believers speak in their foreign language.

So the believers in the upper room could testify about Christ in foreign languages they had never learned before.

This gift enables you to speak in human languages but the bible tells us that it also helps you to communicate with God in a heavenly language.
The Holy Spirit speaks directly to the Father on behalf of us. He intercedes for us.

God hears His voice and grants His requests so we grow stronger and stronger for He knows what we need spiritually and physically.

“For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God.
Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit.”
1 Corinthians 14:2 

This gift of God to people, who surrender their lives to Him, is very essential to reach spiritual maturity in Him. It is also a sign to the world that they are His people.

“And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.” Mark 16:17-18

Why does God place signs on His Children? Remember how Cain got a mark, a sign on his head after he killed Abel in the beginning of mankind? (Genesis 4)
God wanted to make clear that this first murderer was truly the son of mankind baring man’s image. Unfortunately we all descended from Adam and bare his image, the image of a fallen creature.

But God restored mankind through the offering of His own Son.
Through Him we can bare His image, His sign once again.
Descendents of the heavenly father, born again in Christ.

Do you want to speak the language of love, the language of heaven?
Do you want to speak in tongues, so you can be build up to the best you can be in Him?

Pray with me from your heart;

Lord Jesus,
Please forgive me all that I’ve done wrong.
Please help me to forgive those who wronged me.
Come into my heart and cleanse me with your blood that flowed for my sins.

Fill me with your Holy Spirit and let me speak the language of your Spirit, so I can grow strong in faith.
Let me be filled with your Godly love today.
Thank you for receiving me and for accepting me as Your child.

Congratualions!!! You have just entered the kingdom of heaven and have become a heavenly citizen though still residing on earth.

God will guide you and help you with all your problems as you pray and seek Him daily.

Read His Word, it will reveal Him to you and will empower you to overcome all the obstacles life can bring. Find a church and grow strong in Him together with other children of God.
