Is God who is love really the same God who created a place called hell?
The bible says that there is only one God and that indeed He created heaven but also a place called hell.
Often times people do not want to come to God because they do not understand this.
They also don’t understand why there is justice but also injustice on earth while there is a loving God who created all things.
Even many Godfearing people in the bible like Habakkuk and others often raised questions to God about this.
Many of us also who follow Christ must have had many ???? as we wonder why God seemingly allows people to be evil without punishing them.
But God does answer our questions about this in His Word.
Habakkuk and others did hear and see His answer to their questions about the evil of people as God delivered justice and the evil were punished.
Well that is satisfying to the mind and heart that God is a God of justice, but why does it take so long at times for Him to stop evil?
The burden of love
God created hell for the devil and his demons, it was not created for people.
It is a terrible place of eternal fire that inflicts extreme pain on the evil ones.
The God of love does not want people to go there, but when they decide to follow satan by walking in the darkness of sin instead of walking in the holy light of His love, they end up there because He hates sin.
Because He loves the people but not their sins He will do anything to try to save them from hell.
It grieves Him in His heart to sent them to hell and it’s a burden to Him, a burden that He asks us to share in the bible as He asks us to take up our cross and share His burden.
He wants us to exchange our burden with His burden of love and know His gentle and humble heart that will give our weary hearts rest from the questions about the evil that seems to continue even while He is a God of justice.
The Holy Spirit revealed Matthew 11: 28 to me in a new way.
The limit of love
You see it’s hard for God who is love to throw people into hell, it’s a burden to Him and so He keeps warning them not to harden their hearts and keep sinning.
But as some continue to sin and harden their hearts they reach the limit that He has set where His hatred of sin overrules His love and lifts the burden that kept Him from condemning them.
“Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts, as [happened] in the rebellion [of Israel] and their provocation and embitterment [of Me] in the day of testing in the wilderness.” Hebrews 3:7-8
“A man who remains stiff-necked after many rebukes will suddenly be destroyed—without remedy.” Proverbs 29:1
I always thought that God had only set a limit because He gives people chances to repent.
But now I have come to see that it is also to help Him be relieved of the burden that love can bring to not throw them into hell because their sins have become so great.
For some deliberately go on sinning and others are just careless with God’s love for them like Esau.
So they fall away from being His image bearers in the world and lift His burden of love from His heart that keeps Him from punishing them.
Love has to love and love has to punish injustice or else love would not be love.
(Does that make you dizzy?)
That’s why God has to throw those who follow the devil’s ways in the devil’s place; hell
And that’s why those who love Him and share His burden of love to not want to see people going to hell, understand why things can take awhile before He changes it.
And as they understand this they enter His rest in faith that He is love, that He is the God of mercy and of justice and that it is better to share His burden of love instead of lifting it from His shoulder by continually sinning and reaching the way of no return where His love does not withhold Him from condemning them.
Share His burden with me and experience rest for your mind, heart and soul.
Love and blessings,
Monique
